Hannah Hawkins, Women's Basketball
Anderson University women’s basketball junior Hannah Hawkins is the Raven Female Athlete of the Week.
Hawkins put together averages of 12.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and three blocks last week. Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (5-16, 4-10) edged the Ravens (9-12, 5-6) in a 48-44 decision during Wednesday’s Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) matchup. Anderson then shut down Bluffton University (11-10, 5-9) with a 64-57 HCAC victory on Saturday.
Hawkins racked up five blocks, while turning in eight points and six rebounds against Rose-Hulman. The 6-foot-2 center from Fairmount recorded 17 points, 13 rebounds and one block against Bluffton.
Hawkins holds the Anderson single-game blocking record as well as the single-season and career blocking records in Anderson’s Division III era. She powered to nine blocks in a 56-51 comeback HCAC win against Earlham College (5-16, 4-10) on Feb. 1. With 58 blocks this season and 135 blocks in her career, Hawkins sits at the top of both leaderboards in the Anderson Division III era. Hawkins currently leads the conference and ranks 26th in the nation with 2.76 blocks per game.
Anderson is slated for two HCAC matchups this week. The Ravens challenge Hanover College (14-6, 13-1) on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in O.C. Lewis Gymnasium. Anderson then takes on Franklin College (12-8, 8-6) on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Franklin.
