Anderson Splits with Earlham

The Anderson University baseball team split with Earlham College during Sunday's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) doubleheader on Sunday at Don Brandon Field.

Anderson (12-9, 2-4) shut out Earlham (14-7, 4-2) by a score of 5-0 in Game 1. The Quakers then outlasted the Ravens 9-8 in Game 2.

Landen Southern (2-1) tossed eight scoreless innings and struck out nine batters in Game 1. The sophomore from Lafayette issued five walks and allowed four hits in eight innings.

During Game 2, the Ravens began a comeback attempt in the bottom of the eighth inning. Trailing 9-5, Jed Downham blasted a two-run home run to cut the lead in half. Later in the inning, Connor Gordon singled in pinch runner Collin Baer from second to make the score 9-8.

The Ravens had the tying run on second in the ninth, but Earlham's Jacob Renner was able to close the door.
