Anderson University men's basketball standout Maurice Knight was selected to the D3hoops Team of the Week, which was announced by D3hoops.com on Tuesday.
Knight has averaged 29 points and 11.5 rebounds during the last two weeks as Anderson (5-5) won both of its games. The junior from Frankton compiled 24 points, 19 rebounds and two blocks as the Ravens smashed Defiance College (7-3, 2-1), the final remaining undefeated team in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play, with a 90-62 victory on Dec. 18. Knight crushed his previous rebounding high of 11.
Anderson then topped Olivet College (2-8) in an 88-81 victory on Dec. 21. Knight poured in a career-high 34 points. His performances of 34 points and 24 points are the two highest single-game point totals in his career.
Due to the holidays, players were recognized for games that occurred in the span of Dec. 16-29.
Knight leads the conference in points per game (21.0), rebounds per game (8.6) and blocks per game (1.8). As a team, Anderson is currently at the top of the HCAC in points per game (78.6), blocks per game (4.4) and 3-point field-goal defense (31.1 percent). The Ravens also rank 12th in the nation in fewest turnovers per game (10.5).
Anderson, Defiance, Hanover College (7-2, 2-1), Transylvania University (6-4, 2-1) and Franklin College (6-4, 2-1) are each tied for first in the HCAC standings. The Ravens return to action on Saturday in an HCAC matchup with Earlham College (5-5, 1-2) at 3 p.m. in Richmond.
