Fightin’ Engineers Take Win against Ravens

Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology took a 78-64 victory against the Anderson University men's basketball team during Wednesday's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) matchup in O.C. Lewis Gymnasium.

"I am honestly embarrassed, and we should all be embarrassed, by the effort and intensity we showed [on Wednesday]," Coach Owen Handy said. "We did not play hard. We did not play with a sense of focus."

Rose-Hulman (11-9, 8-5) powered to a 40-21 rebounding advantage. The Fightin' Engineers held a 10-2 advantage on the offensive boards and outscored the Ravens (10-10, 7-6) by a 12-2 margin on second-chance points.

"To me, the statistic that perfectly summarizes this game is the rebounding statistic. To get nearly doubled up on the boards on your home floor is totally unacceptable, but it perfectly summarizes how hard we played."

Rose-Hulman converted 31-of-60 (51.7 percent) shots from the field while Anderson hit 26-of-58 (44.8 percent) attempts from the floor.

The Fightin' Engineers outscored the Ravens 46-26 in the paint.

Malik Laffoon led the Ravens with 11 points. Maurice Knight scored nine points. Larry Johnson notched eight points, three steals and two blocks. Tate Cooper provided eight points and five rebounds. Jalen Johnson added eight points, Jake Gudorf turned in seven points, Austin Lyons put together six points, Ronny Williams provided five points and Michael Rogers rounded out Anderson's scoring with two points.

"My hat is off to Rose-Hulman. They were well prepared to play, and played much harder than we did."

Anderson battles Bluffton University (11-9, 7-6) in HCAC action on Saturday at 4 p.m. in O.C. Lewis Gymnasium.
