Anderson University men's basketball sophomore Tate Ivanyo collected multiple national honors in awards that were announced on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Ivanyo was tabbed a National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Second-Team All-American and an NABC First-Team All-Region recipient. The Valparaiso native was also selected as a College Sports Communicators (CSC) Third-Team Academic All-American. To cap off the accolades, Ivanyo also earned D3hoops.com First-Team All-Region honors, becoming a consensus first-team all-region selection.
CSC recognizes student-athletes for a combination of academic and athletic excellence. Showcasing a second-team all-American season, Ivanyo was tabbed as Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Player of the Year as well as the HCAC Tournament MVP. Ivanyo finished second in the conference in scoring as he helped lead the Ravens to their second-ever NCAA Tournament appearance and their first ever HCAC Tournament title. During the First Round NCAA Tournament, Anderson put up a hard-fought match against the University of Mount Union, ranked No. 3 in the nation at the time and future NCAA D-III Final Four participant. In the classroom, Ivanyo currently holds a 4.0 cumulative GPA and is pursuing a degree in Biology.
COACH CARTER COLLINS'S COMMENTS
Tate is incredibly deserving of these accolades. These teams are made up of some of the finest individual players in all of D-III basketball, but also players who came from teams that experienced a lot of success this season, and Tate fits the bill on both of those requirements. Tate's basketball abilities speak for themselves, but Tate also stepped up as a leader on our team this season, both on and off the court, and his leadership was a huge reason for our team's success this year. As everyone knows, Tate is a model citizen in the classroom as well, maintaining a perfect 4.0 GPA. We are all extremely proud of Tate, and are looking forward to watching him strive for even bigger and better next year, as we attempt to do the same as a team.
