Anderson Soccer Celebrates 25 Years of Camps
July 3, 2019
The Anderson University soccer program is set to begin its Residential/Day Camp and its Anderson Kickers Camp, which have been ongoing camps with the program since debuting in 1994.
"I am very proud of this," Anderson men's soccer head coach Scott Fridley said. "For 25 years we have trained and help build the love of soccer to many youths. We have been fortunate to build that niche in the market to young soccer players looking to get away for a week of soccer. Anderson University is a safe place for kids to come enjoy 'The Beautiful Game.'"
As the camps have become one of the longest running in the state of Indiana, it has also seen tremendous growth during the last 25 years.
"As the 2nd longest running residential camp in the region to Indiana University, we have been very blessed to stay apart of the soccer world teaching kids and stressing the love of the game in a lower pressure scenario that they can enjoy. In this camp alone we have been able to teach soccer to over 4,500 young people. When I started this camp in 1994 as a young coach, our first year we had 27 kids, mostly from the northern Indy area and Anderson. We have been lucky enough to have all kinds of players come from our camp from MLS players to many college players at all divisions. As we hope for many years to come, we are grateful to be a part of the youth movement of soccer in Indiana."
During his prep career, Kevin Burns attended the Anderson Soccer Camps for seven years. He competed with the University of Connecticut soccer team for four years, graduating in 2007. Burns then spent six years in the MLS, which included a 2008 title run with the Columbus Crew.
"Scott Fridley has been an amazing mentor to my career," Burns said. "I first went to the camp with my brother at the age of 10 and attended for another six years. It was an amazing experience for me, both professionally and socially. I highly recommend any and all skill levels to attend the Anderson soccer camp. You won't regret it."
