Anderson Rallies Past Bluffton
The Anderson University volleyball team rallied past Bluffton University with a 25-22, 24-26, 25-22, 26-24 victory during Wednesday's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) matchup at O.C. Lewis Gymnasium.
Â
Anderson (7-11, 1-1) held a 2-1 set advantage against Bluffton (4-17, 0-2), but trailed 20-24 in the fourth set. The Ravens needed to win the next four points to keep the set alive, but they won the next six to clinch the match.
"I am proud of the team for fighting through [the match], especially in the fourth set," Coach Tami Miller said. "We need to do a better job of putting teams away when we have the lead rather than let them climb back into a match. Overall, we are pleased with the win and the grit that we showed."
Â
Felicity Bontrager (Goshen, Ind./Fairfield) led the Ravens with 15 kills. Olivia Rice (Walkerton, Ind./John Glenn) smashed 13 kills and finished the match with a .500 attack percentage. Hannah Rady (Cloverdale, Ind./Cloverdale) and Makaylea Alberts (Alexandria, Ind./Alexandria-Monroe) dished out 30 assists and 17 assists, respectively. Emily Benefiel (Frankton, Ind./Frankton) and Brooke Troyer (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Memorial) each collected 14 digs. Jimena Montano (Algonquin, Ill./Harvest Christian Academy) recorded 10 kills and a team-high four blocks. Rady scattered 11 digs. Bontrager turned in three blocks and Ashlyn Transier (Swayzee, Ind./Oak Hill) smashed seven kills.
