Bio

Andy Shaffer enters the 2022-23 season in his second year as the Anderson University Director of Sports Medicine.

Shaffer arrived at Anderson after spending the last 18 years in the athletic training field. He covered the student-athletes for Indiana University Kokomo for the previous six years, which includes three years with St. Vincent Sports Performance and the most recent three years with Community Howard Hospital in Kokomo. While at Community Howard Hospital, Shaffer designed the athletic training policies for IU Kokomo and coordinated daily communication with IU Kokomo’s coaches and athletic directors. Shaffer also supervised the design of the IU Kokomo athletic training room. He is a current member of College Athletic Trainers Society (CATS).

Shaffer also worked as an adjunct faculty for IU Kokomo from 2018-2021. During that time, he taught classes for Biometrics, Motor Learning, Motor Development, Intro to Exercise Science and Intro to Health and Wellness.

Prior to arriving at Replay Community Howard, Shaffer served as an athletic trainer at St. Vincent Sports Performance for 12 years, beginning in 2007. While at St. Vincent Sports Performance, Shaffer served as the athletic trainer for Heritage Christian School in Indianapolis from 2007-2012. Shaffer then filled the role of Westfield High School’s athletic trainer during the 2012-13 school year. In 2013, Shaffer served as the Medical Director for the NFL Combine conditioning program. He also worked as the Medical Director for Soccer by Design. Shaffer then began his coverage of IU Kokomo in 2015.

In 2003, Shaffer filled an athletic training role for Replay Physical Therapy in Kokomo for four years. During that time, Shaffer worked as an athletic trainer for the Miami Correctional Facility as well as Taylor High School in Kokomo.

During his collegiate career, Shaffer competed in football at Butler University for four years. Shaffer graduated from Butler with a bachelor’s degree in Education with an emphasis in Athletic Training. He then earned a Master of Business Administration in Sport Management at Tiffin University. Shaffer is currently pursuing a Doctor of Athletic Training at A.T. Still University.
