AU Drops Homecoming Contest
September 29, 2018
Anderson scored a safety and a touchdown on a quarterback keeper by freshman Travis McGuire in the second quarter, but was unable to muster any more points against a stingy Hanover defense in a 55-8 loss to the Panthers on Homecoming Saturday at Macholtz Stadium.
McGuire was a spark for the AU offense, rushing for 100 yards on 19 carries.
AU got on the board with 13:04 remaining in the second quarter. A bad snap to Hanover quarterback Noah Wezensky, on his team's 16-yard line, rolled out of the end zone to give the Ravens their first points. It cut Hanover's lead to 14-2. The Panthers scored twice more before McGuire's TD with 3:11 remaining until halftime.
Drew Wilson led in tackles for the AU defense with 15, including nine solos. Noah Mann had 11 with nine solos.
At halftime of Saturday's game, AU introduced its newest class to the AU Athletics Hall of Fame. Jeff Howard (basketball), Al Jones (men's soccer), Tim Fox (track and field), Jennifer Ferguson (women's soccer) were inducted along with the unbeaten 1993 football team. Also honored were Heritage Era women student-athletes that competed and graduated between 1975-79.
AU has its off week next Saturday. The Ravens resume action Oct. 13 with a 7 p.m. contest at Earlham.
