Smith Named HCAC Defensive Player of the Week

Anderson University freshman defensive lineman Elijah Smith has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
In Saturday's game at Rose-Hulman, Smith had 13 total tackles, including a season-high 11 solos. Among the tackles were five tackles for loss, giving him 24 for the season, a new AU single-season record. The previous record was 20, set by Mickey White in 2000. Smith's 24 TFLs are most in the nation. He also leads the country in forced fumbles with seven, adding one to that total Saturday.
AU plays host to Bluffton 1:30 p.m., Saturday.
