AU Falls To Bluffton
October 27, 2018
Anderson had a strong performance from its defense, but was unable to get points against the second-ranked defense in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference. Anderson lost 13-0 to Bluffton at Macholtz Stadium, Saturday.
"I'm very proud of the way our team battled today," said AU coach Steve Rock. "While the outcome was not what we wanted, the improvement over last year's game against Bluffton is what we will have to hang our hat on.
"Last year's game (a 56-14 loss at Bluffton) was all but a blowout. We were in today's game until the very end. The defense played well all day minus one big play."
AU's Elijah Smith, the reigning HCAC Defensive Player of the Week, added to his school-record and nation-leader tackles for loss. He had three to give him 27 for the season. Drew Wilson had a game-best 11 stops, while Noah Mann and Caleb Beyers each had an interception.
Anderson moved the ball offensively, but was unable to get in the end zone. The Ravens were picked off three times deep in Bluffton territory and had two series inside the 20 end on downs.
"We will work hard these last two weeks of the season to build on the positives of today," added Rock.
AU freshman receiver Zac Tallent had 13 catches – most by a Raven this season - for 88 yards. Junior quarterback Jarrod Hubble was 26-for-50 for 202 yards, but had four interceptions.
AU travels to Mount St. Joseph next week.
