Freshman Of The Year Smith Leads AU's All-HCAC Selections

Highlighted by Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year Elijah Smith, nine Anderson University football players received recognition today with the release of the 2018 All-HCAC Football Team.
In his first collegiate season, Smith led the nation in forced fumbles with seven and was third in the country in tackles for loss, setting an AU single-season record with 29.5 TFLs. Smith was AU's lone first-team selection.
Sophomore wide receiver Alex Barnett, senior linebacker Dakota Frauhiger and senior defensive lineman Caleb Wooldridge were members of the All-HCAC Second Team.
Barnett was ninth in the conference in receptions (37) and seventh in receiving yards (513). Frauhiger was the league's Defensive Player of the Week for Week 1. He was fourth in the league in total tackles with 101 and was second in solo tackles with 58. Wooldridge ranked sixth in the league in sacks with six and was ninth in tackles for loss with 9.5. Barnett and Frauhiger were both honorable mention choices last year.
Freshman running back Reggie Lipscomb, senior right tackle Stephen Marshall, freshman wide receiver Zac Tallent and sophomore linebacker Drew Wilson were named honorable mention.
Lipscomb finished seventh in the league in rushing with 528 yards. He had two 100-plus yard games, including an AU-best 170 yards in the season finale against Manchester on Saturday. Marshall is a three-time All-HCAC honorable mention selection. As a freshman and junior, he was acknowledged for his work as a defensive player. He moved to offense after the first game of the regular season this year. Tallent ranked seventh in the league in receptions with 41. He had a 13-reception, 88-yard game on Oct. 27 against Bluffton. Wilson, an honorable mention choice for the second straight year, was sixth in the league in total tackles with 85 and he led the league in fumble recoveries with three. He also had three sacks and 7.5 tackles for loss.
Senior defensive lineman Jeremy Davis was AU's representative on the Christopher M. Ragsdale All-Sportsmanship Team.
