Bio

Bryant Beard is the head coach of the Anderson University men and women’s tennis teams.

Under his leadership in his second season of coaching women’s tennis, the women’s program made large improvements in the Fall 2019 season. The Ravens finished in the Fall with a historic record of 14-2, going undefeated in HCAC play. Anderson was awarded HCAC Coach of the Year, HCAC Player of the Year and HCAC Freshman of the Year. The Ravens also finished the year with four first-team all-conference selections, two All-HCAC Honorable Mention recipients and five HCAC Player-of-the-Week selections. Anderson earned a runner-up finish in the HCAC Tournament. The Ravens were also named an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team in 2019.

Beard begins his fourth season as the men’s head coach in the Spring of 2020. The men’s team have also been recognized as an ITA All-Academic Team, with a 3.41 GPA in the previous season.

Coach Beard began his tennis journey locally, playing for Shenandoah High School in Middleton. He then starting his collegiate career at Anderson University where he completed his Bachelor’s of Arts in French and History with a minor in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).

Before taking over the Men’s Program in 2015, he made experience in teaching English and tennis abroad, living in Sweden and Honduras. He is most proud of continuing to make diverse cultural experiences and incorporate those learnings into the tennis program.

Coach Beard spends his time outside of Anderson University, giving private lessons, stringing racquets, and working part-time as an Associate Pro at Northwest YMCA in Muncie.
