The Anderson University women's lacrosse program and head coach Colin McSharar announced the additions of Baylee Tobin and C.J. Pinyot to the women's lacrosse coaching staff on Wednesday.
Tobin and Pinyot begin their debut seasons as assistant coaches for the Ravens in 2020. Veronica Mitchell also returns for her second season as an assistant.
"I think the addition of these two young women further proves that we are making the right moves to further enhance the experience of our players," McSharar said. "We have three women on staff who are all in three different points of their lives. All three each bring a different perspective to the game and all three women still coach at the high school level."
Tobin has been a part of lacrosse in many different facets since 2007. She has spent six years as a coach, she has officiated for six years and she played lacrosse for five years.
Tobin is currently in third year with the Noblesville High School coaching staff. She spent the 2019 season as head coach of the Millers. Tobin's first head coaching position came during the 2016 season, when she took the helm at Heritage Christian High School in Indianapolis, her alma mater, for one season. She served as an assistant for Heritage Christian during the previous five years.
Tobin played for five years with Heritage Christian and graduated in 2011. She then graduated from IUPUI in 2015 with a bachelor's degree in Hospitality and Event Management. Tobin also works at Harvest Church in Carmel.
"Baylee was recommended to me by Coach Mitchell a few months back. She has a high lacrosse IQ, she's involved in her church, and most importantly, she's a good visible role model for our players. She also has head coaching experience. I know the team will respond well to having her around the team. She's the exact type of person we need on staff. Baylee and her family are deeply rooted not just in lacrosse, but in high level athletics in general. Her aunt, Beth, is the head coach at Heritage Christian, where C.J. is also an assistant. Her sister is a D1 Commit who was coached by Baylee and Coach Mitchell at Noblesville. She also has family members who are heavily involved in different sorts of high-level racing."
Pinyot returns to Anderson after competing for the Ravens as a senior captain during Anderson's inaugural 2019 season. She was tabbed with first-team all-Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference (HCLC) honors. Pinyot scored 20 points on 19 goals and an assist, while missing two-of-10 matches due to injury. She scored the first Anderson goal in program history. Pinyot converted 5-of-10 free-position attempts for a .500 free-position percentage, which tied for third in the HCLC. She graduated from Anderson in 2019 with a bachelor's in Business Administration.
Pinyot also enters her first season as an assistant coach at Heritage Christian.
"We're excited to have C.J. back with us. She's a familiar face to the program. The players respond well to her. Her passion for the sport has and will continue to rub off on the players."
The entire coaching staff has roots in the state of Indiana and look to utilize that as the footprint of lacrosse continues to grow at Anderson and in the state of Indiana.
"All four of us coaches are Hoosiers. Indiana natives are rare in the big picture of college lacrosse; AU employs half of the Indiana native women's college lacrosse coaches in the entire country. With that, all four of us care most about the growth of the sport, which is only going to pay dividends in the growth of this team over the next few years. Statistically, women's college lacrosse is the second hardest sport in the country of which to recruit. Which means that we have to offer something different to attract the right kids here to AU. Having these women on staff is one of the biggest ways to accomplish these goals."
