Anderson Outlasts Franklin
The Anderson University women’s lacrosse team outlasted Franklin College with a 12-11 victory during Wednesday’s Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference (HCLC) matchup in Franklin.
The Anderson University women's lacrosse team outlasted Franklin College with a 12-11 victory during Wednesday's Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference (HCLC) matchup in Franklin.
Anderson (4-3, 1-1) took an 11-9 lead with 6 minutes, 30 seconds remaining and held that lead for 1:56. That span of 1:56 accounts for the only time either team held a lead of larger than one goal.
"These ladies never give up," Coach Russell Mackey said. "I was pleased with their mental toughness in [Wednesday's] match."
Franklin (0-6, 0-2) cleared 16-of-21 (76.2 percent) attempts while Anderson finished 13-of-22 (59.1 percent) attempts.
Samantha Huber (St. Louis, Mo./Westminster Christian) led the Ravens with four goals and two assists for six points. Kaitlyn Lawson (Newburgh, Ind./Castle) also notched four goals. Mallory Housman (Evansville, Ind./Reitz Memorial) turned in two goals while Gretta Mesarosh (Avon, Ind./Avon) and Elizabeth Graham (Riverside, Ohio/Carroll) each netted goals. Graham and Riley Tull (Georgetown, Ky./Scott County) each provided assists.
Madison Leonard (Flower Mound, Texas/Flower Mound) saved 10 of the 21 shots she faced. Emily Albert (New Albany, Ind./Christian Academy of Indiana) and Housman picked up five ground balls apiece. Leonard collected four ground balls and Lawson tallied three ground balls. Housman and Huber caused two turnovers apiece. Huber and Graham each won six draw controls.
Anderson faces off with Hanover College (1-4, 0-1) in HCLC action on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Macholtz Stadium.
