Four Anderson University women's lacrosse players received all-Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference (HCLC) honors, which were announced on Monday.
Elizabeth Graham (Riverside, Ohio/Carroll) garnered first-team all-HCLC recognition. Mallory Housman (Evansville, Ind./Reitz Memorial) and Samantha Huber (St. Louis, Mo./Westminster Christian) each received second-team all-HCLC recognition. Madison Leonard (Flower Mound, Texas/Flower Mound) received all-HCLC Honorable Mention.
"I am so proud of the young ladies on the lacrosse team for the great strides they made with the program this year," Coach Russell Mackey said.
Graham earned her first career all-conference recognition. The sophomore attack from Riverside, Ohio led the Ravens in goals (26) and points (29). On the season, Graham totaled 26 goals, three assists, 29 points, 43 draw controls, 13 ground balls and seven caused turnovers. Graham ranked third in the HCLC with 4.78 draw controls per game and T-3 in the conference with 2.89 goals per game.
"Elizabeth helped us win draws and this in turns is critical to winning games and being competitive. Her tenacity and strength around the goal circle was also a key to our team's success."
Housman secured all-conference recognition for the second time after also receiving second-team all-HCLC honors in 2019. The junior midfielder from Evansville paced the Ravens with 21 caused turnovers. Housman also provided 28 ground balls, 19 goals, one assist, 20 points and eight draw controls. Among HCLC leaders, Housman ranks first in caused turnovers per match (2.33) and fifth in ground balls per match (3.11).
"Mallory was very consistent in scoring, so we counted on her multiple goals per game. She experienced some personal tragedy late in the season, yet she was able to perform and perhaps grow even. Loser to her teammates because of it. Her mental toughness was on display all season, but most of all down the stretch."
Huber collected all-conference recognition after earning second-team all-conference honors in 2019. The junior midfielder from St. Louis led the Ravens with 45 draw controls. Huber also produced 17 goals, six assists, 23 points, 17 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers. Among HCLC leaders, Huber ranked second with five draw controls per match.
"Samantha is all purpose. She won many draws with speed, helped us transition the ball down field and was always a threat in the offensive set. She had a number of breakout games scoring."
Leonard received all-conference recognition for the first time. The sophomore goalie from Flower Mound, Texas led the Ravens with 39 ground balls. She also caused eight turnovers and saved 87 of the 121 shots she faced for a .419 save percentage. Among HCLC leaders, Leonard ranked first in ground balls per match (4.33) and second in saves per match (9.67). Leonard also ranked 33rd in the nation in ground balls per match.
"Madison plays goalie like a lion. She is so mobile and skilled with her stick, sometimes you'd think she was a field player. Madison had some incredible saves that also was key to success, especially towards the ends of games when you needed them most!"
