Ravens Tune Up in Ball State Invite
The Anderson University men's cross country team tuned up for the conference meet during Friday's Ball State Invite in Muncie.
Â
"The men performed OK," Coach Sol Stephens said. "They said that final 2K really ate them up, so we're going to make some training adjustments. They came through the first 3K, 4K and 5K where they should have been based on what we've been training for, but the back half ate them up."
Â
Ian Leatherman (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) claimed 10th place in the college division with an 8K time of 27 minutes, 5.1 seconds.
Â
"Once again, Ian steps in and throws his face in the fight even though there are Division I kids in the meet. Sometimes you are going to get hit, but you keep plowing away step-by-step, so hopefully it comes together."
Â
Clayton Wilson (Greencastle, Ind./Greencastle) earned 21st with a time of 28:37.2. Kaleb Guchinski (Fishers, Ind./Fishers) secured 23rd (30:25.5) and turned in a 20.8-second personal record (PR).
Â
"Clayton and Kaleb ran well together for that first 3K. They needed to be at a certain time at a certain point because they have been training partners together, so I'm pretty pleased with that."
Â
Kaid Hutchinson (Pendleton, Ind./Pendleton Heights) rolled to a 50.5-second PR, taking 27th with a time of 32:03.4.
Â
"I'm pleased with Kaid who ran a PR. As a senior who is not really a long-distance runner, he has stuck by us and been a great support academically and socially with the group."
Â
Anderson returns to action on Nov. 3 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Championships in Terre Haute.
Â
"I do not have any complaints about [Friday]. I think we are on schedule to accomplish what we have set out to accomplish."
