Anderson University men's cross country sophomore Kaleb Gucinski (Fishers, Ind./Fisher) led the Ravens during Sunday's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Championships at Tom Sawyer Park in Louisville, Ky.
Gucinski claimed 28th place by clocking an 8K time of 28 minutes, 12.15 seconds.
"We had a nice run by Kaleb," Coach Sol Stephens said. "He went out there and competed very well. We've figured out that he's been masquerading as a middle-distance runner and found out that he's more than qualified to move up and compete in distances."
The Ravens dealt with inclement weather conditions as they competed in their only meet of the season.
"The best way for us to start and finish our cross country season in a single meet is to get rained on and give it our all," Gucinski said.
Clayton Wilson (Greencastle, Ind./Greencastle) took 40th with a time of 29:18.86. Zach Burton (Indianapolis, Ind./Zionsville) secured 44th with a time of 29:37.60.
"Zach returned for his first race since November 2019 and had to shake off the rust," Stephens said. "He'll get into the flow before the outdoor 10K championships."
Anderson kicks off the outdoor track and field season in the Yellow Jacket Collegiate Open on March 27 at 10:30 a.m. in Cedarville, Ohio.
