Anderson Fights Elements in NCAA Great Lakes Regional
The Anderson University women's cross country fought the elements during Saturday's NCAA Great Lakes Regional in Grand Rapids, Mich.
Â
Due to course conditions, the originally-scheduled 6K was shortened to approximately 5,600 meters.
Â
Anderson claimed 32nd place as a team. The Ravens repeated in topping Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) opponents Transylvania University and Mount St. Joseph University.
Â
"In the brutal, freezing cold and on a terrible course because of weather, the women competed well," Coach Sol Stephens said.
Â
Rebecca Gregg (Mansfield, Ohio/Ontario) raced to 126th place with a time of 24 minutes, 21.7 seconds. Noelle Loller (Lapel, Ind./Lapel) captured 146th with a time of 24:52.3.
Â
"Rebecca and Noelle's performances are testaments to the investment they made this season. They both got out too slow and the placing suffered but the clock was still favorable. It's so many athletes in the race that are around the same speed so if you're behind at the start, it makes it harder to pick up people on the back half of the race. They're young with potential so this year was definitely a learning process but they're slightly ahead of the improvement curve."
Â
Katelyn Englert (Birdseye, Ind./Forest Park) claimed 223rd with a time 29:07.3.
Â
"Katelyn ran a good race in 'the coldest weather she's ever been in' according to her. She's laid the foundation work to setup for a good track season."
Â
Makayla Barbour (Westville, Ind./Chesterton) secured 227th with a time of 30:05.6. Bailey Wallace (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) placed 233rd with a time of 35:08.1.
Â
"Makayla and Bailey were off their game and just got too far behind on the muddy slow course."
Â
The Ravens now begin the transition from cross country to track and field.
Â
"All in all, it's been a decent season. People are reasonably healthy going into transition for indoors. We have more work to do with more goals to accomplish but they're excited for the challenge."
