Baseball

The 1965 baseball team was acknowledged for outstanding athletic achievement. Coached by the legendary Carl Erskine, the team was the first to reach the NAIA national tournament finals. They finished the season 20-5 and won the Hoosier Collegiate Conference with an 11-1 mark. The crowning achievement of the team was winning three games on the final day of the NAIA District 5 Tournament to capture the district title and berth into the NAIA finals. In the national tournament, Anderson set a team record, which still stands today, for the lowest ERA, an amazing 0.00. The team finished ranked eighth in the nation. Following the season, three players were named NAIA All-American; Bob Weigle, Terry Stevens and Denny Lehnus. Erskine, Weigle and Darryl Lehnus are all Hall of Fame members associated with the team.

Other team members include: Charles Blackwelder, Rich Christenson, Rich Davis, Mike Fox, Denny Gloff, Max Hoppel, Rick Perry, Jerry Stevens, Terry Tierney, Dan VonBargen and Bob Young.
