Richard Brown - 2002 Athlete

Richard Brown came to Anderson University in the fall of 1951 from Chillicothe, Ohio to play basketball and tennis. Four years later, he left as its all-time leading scorer in basketball with 1,656 points – he is currently fourth on the career list.

Brown still holds records for free throws made in a game (21), season (200 in 1954-55) and career (578) as well as free throws attempted in a career (740) from 1952-55. He led the Ravens in scoring his final three seasons, was All-Conference two times (1954 and 1955) and team MVP twice after the 1952 and 1954 seasons. Brown also lettered for one season on the tennis team.

Brown graduated from Anderson in 1956 and later earned his master’s degree from The Ohio State University in Public Administration in 1976. While at AU, he was a member of Sachem, the Student Council, the Athletic Committee and Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities. Brown also served in the U.S. Army from 1956-58.

Brown currently resides in Columbus, Ohio, and has two children – Susan and Jay.
