Michael Monroe Burton - 2000 Athlete

Mike Burton starred on the basketball court and track while at Anderson University before graduation in 1981. On the basketball floor, Burton earned four letters while serving as team captain, MVP, All-Conference and All-District for the Ravens.

In track, he won four letters, was team captain, MVP and All-Conference while setting the school record in the javelin – which still stands today.

Burton was also successful in business, owning his own trucking firm in Columbus, Ohio, before retiring in 1997 and selling it to a Fortune 500 company. Burton Enterprises was founded in 1985 and became one of Ohio’s top trucking firms. “The American dream is to start something from scratch, build it up and sell it,” Burton said of his company.

He was named Entrepreneur of the Year in Ohio in 1997. He was also a successful owner/driver on the American Automobile racing scene and in 1988 was a member of the USA bobsled team.

Burton currently resides in Celebration, Fla., where he is a volunteer youth sports director.
