Jacqueline (Determan) Tretten – 2004 Athlete

Jackie (Determan) Tretten came to Anderson University in the fall of 1979 from San Francisco, Calif., to play basketball and volleyball.

She was a four-year starter on the volleyball team and held several school hitting records and was named team MVP after the 1982 season. She was a team captain her final two seasons and a key player on the Ravens state championship and regional qualifier team in 1981, when they finished 25-13.

On the basketball floor, she was a four-year lettermen and still holds the school record for field goal percentage in a game (7-of-7 vs. Taylor in 1982). Tretten also ranks third on the on the career rebound average list (8.7 per game), fourth in career rebounding (655), fifth and sixth in season rebounding average (10.6 and 9.7 in 1981 and 82, respectively), seventh in season rebounds (208 in 1982), eighth in season (.502 in 1982) and career field goal percentage (.465)

She scored 703 career points, averaging double figures in the last two years. She led the team in rebounding her final two seasons, including a career-high 208 in 1982.

Off the floor, Tretten was on the national Dean’s List, a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Who’s Who Among American Universities and Kappa Delta Pi.

Tretten graduated from Anderson University in 1983 with her bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and later earned her master’s from St. Mary’s College in Educational Leadership.

After graduation, she has coached volleyball and basketball for even years at the high school level as well as her own children in volleyball, basketball and soccer. She has been an administrator and Department Chair in the Physical Education department at Vanden High School.

Tretten and her husband Eric have two children (Kimberly and Bret) and reside in Vacaville, Calif.

Anderson University is proud to name Jackie (Determan) Tretton to its Athletic Hall of Fame.
