Dr. Mark Gittins - 1999 Athlete

Dr. Mark Gittins certainly has left his mark many times in his chosen work as an orthopedic surgeon since leaving Anderson University in 1982 after a distinguishing career in both football and track.

As a Raven, he lettered all four years in football and track, serving as team captain in both sports. In track he was also All-Conference, All-District and Academic All-American at Anderson University, including school records in the hurdles and two relays.

Now a surgeon in Columbus, Ohio, Gittins’ written work has appeared in numerous national medical journals. He is also a past president of the Columbus Academy of Osteopathic Physicians and member/officer of numerous other medical groups. He served as team physician at Capital University in Columbus and was an orthopedic consultant to “Balletmet,” a Columbus professional dance company.

He came to Anderson University after graduating from Fair Oaks High School in California and earned his bachelor’s degree in 1982. He also graduated from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Missouri. He was a trauma fellow to Switzerland in 1992.

At least seven of Dr. Gittins’ family also are Anderson University alumni, including his wife, the former Sheri Maddox.
