Hinton came to Anderson from Brookville (Ohio) High School to play football, baseball and basketball for the Ravens in the fall of 1980.
 

Hinton is the sixth Anderson University athlete to be elected into the Hall of Fame posthumously.

He earned four letters in football and one in baseball. He was also on the basketball team for one year. On the gridiron, he was one of only two Ravens to ever be named a three-time All-American. He was also All-Conference three times, NAIA All-District 21 three times, Team Captain and Team MVP.

Hinton led the nation in interceptions with nine in 1981 and also had 57 tackles and nine pass defenses that season. He added 11 interceptions over the next two years to finish second on the career list with 20. He also led the team in tackles his senior season with 82.
