Ronald Long - 2005 Athlete

Ron Long came to Anderson from Miamisburg, Ohio, to play basketball in the fall of 1966.

Long earned four letters in basketball and was a two-time All-Conference selection (1968-69), two-time All-NAIA District 21, two-time team MVP (1968-69), two-time FT Award winner (1967-68) and won the Hustle Award in 1968. Long ranks fifth on the career scoring list with 1,654 points.

He also ranks in the top 10 in six career categories and three season categories. He also has the third highest individual scoring game with 46 points against Indiana Central in 1969. He also played in the Indiana-Kentucky College All-Star game in 1969.

Off the hardwood floors, he was a member of Sachem Social Club. Long earned his bachelor’s degree from Anderson in 1969 and added his master’s degree in Counseling from Ball State University in 1973.

After graduation, Long had teaching stops at Pendleton Heights High School (1969-72) and Anderson Community Schools (1972-79) before settling down in Palm Beach, Fla., to work at Palm Beach Community College. He is currently the counselor/director of counseling on a campus of 6,000 students.

Long and his wife Susan reside in Palm Beach, Fla., and have two children: Alexis and Nickolas
