Dorcas Stegelmann – 2009 Athlete

Dorcas Stegelmann came to Anderson in the fall of 1956 from LaGrange High School to play basketball, softball, and tennis for the Ravens.

In an era before women's sports were recognized by Title IX, the NCAA, or NAIA, Stegelmann received just a certificate for her participation in athletics at Anderson. In addition to three sports, she was also active in the band, piano and the Women's Recreational Association while at Anderson.

She earned her bachelor's degree from Anderson in 1962 and added her master's degree in Physical Education from Indiana University in 1964.

After leaving Anderson, she coached high school basketball, volleyball and middle school track. She also officiated middle school, high school and college basketball for 40 years as well as volleyball for more than 30 years.

She was the athletic director at Goshen for 15 years and was named Indiana Interscholastic Athletic Administrator of the Year for District II in 1990.

She currently lives in Angola during the summer and in Estero, Fla. during the winter. She has three children and nine grandchildren.

Anderson University is proud to name Dorcas Stegelmann to its Athletic Hall of Fame.
