Gibb Webber - 2001 Meritorius Service

Few people associated with Anderson University can equal the enthusiasm, dedication and respect for athletics shared by Gibb Webber. This was evident both on the sidelines as a coach and in a representative role as Faculty Athletic Representative.

Webber served on the faculty as an English professor from 1962-1995, when he retired. When he was informed about his selection, he quietly responded, “I would hope that my induction would help pay recognition to the many people who work behind the scenes to make university athletic programs possible.”

He served as cross country coach from 1968-75 and was always involved in some form of athletic endeavor while at Anderson, whether it was running for exercise, keeping the clock at sporting events or volunteering for what needed to be done.

One of Webber’s greatest contributions to Anderson University was his tireless work as the Faculty Athletic Representative. He was on the NAIA District Eligibility Committee from 1978-88, serving as the chair for eight years and on the Athletic Committee for 10 years.

Webber graduated from Anderson University in 1956 and has a Master of Arts degree from Indiana University, where he also did doctoral studies. He was a graduate of Centennial High School in Pueblo, Colo.

Anderson University is proud to name Gibb Webber to the Athletic Hall of Fame.
