Theodore Williams - 2005 Athlete

Ted Williams came to Anderson in the fall of 1966 from Crispus Attucks High School in Indianapolis to play football and baseball.

He earned four letters in football and played on the baseball team for two seasons (1967-68). On the gridiron he was a three-time All-Conference selection (1967-69), two-time All-NAIA District 21 (1968-69), two-time NAIA Div. II HM All-American (1967, 69), team MVP (1967) and team captain (1969). He was also selected to appear in the 1970 edition of Outstanding College Athletes of America.

He still holds the school record for career receptions (203) and receptions per game for a season (8.78). He ranks 2nd on the career list with 30 consecutive games catching a pass, including a career-high 13 receptions against Ashland in 1967. Williams also ranks in the top 10 in five career, season and game categories.

Williams played with the Indianapolis Capitols of the Atlantic Coast Football League for one season after his eligibility was exhausted at Anderson.

Williams earned his bachelor’s degree from Anderson in 1970 and added his master’s degree in Education from Ball State University in 1975.

After graduation, he had stops at Central Junior High (1970-72) and Anderson High School (1972-76), where he was the Assistant Dean of Boys and Assistant Principal. For the last 30 years, he has been a teacher, football coach and Director of Business Initiative Program at Lamar High School in Houston, Tex.

He is also involved with the Houston Coaching Association, North American Workshop League, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and an active church member and Sunday School teacher.

Williams and his wife Stephanie have three children (Shana, Ramian, Ted Jr.,) and six grandchildren.

Anderson University is proud to name Theodore Williams to its Athletic Hall of Fame.
