Berban Takes HCAC Player-of-the-Week Recognition for Fifth Time

Anderson University women's tennis standout Katrina Berban (Seguin, Texas/New Braunfels) took the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Player-of-the-Week recognition for the third time in a row and for the fifth time this season, which was announced by the conference on Tuesday.
Berban put together a combined 5-1 record in singles and doubles as Anderson (13-1, 7-0) went 3-0 on the week. The Ravens coasted to a 9-0 victory against Defiance College (3-10, 2-6) in HCAC action on Wednesday. Anderson broke the school record of 10 wins set in 2011 with the victory. The Ravens posted a 7-0 win against Midway University (4-3) on Friday. Anderson then trailed Transylvania University (6-2, 6-3) by a score of 2-4, but rallied with three third-set victories to lock up a 5-4 victory and the HCAC regular-season title.
Berban/Jasmine Blair (Clearwater, Fla./Homeschool/Largo) (11-2) finished 2-1 on the week at No. 1 doubles. On Wednesday, Berban/Blair cruised to an 8-1 victory against Defiance's A.J. Breneman/Alexa St. Julian (0-12). Berban/Blair put together a 6-4 win against Midway's Claire Smith/Annette Tran (2-3) on Friday. Transylvania's Porsche Robinson/Jessica Burton (9-2) claimed an 8-4 win against Berban/Blair on Saturday.
Berban went 3-0 at No. 1 singles. The freshman from Seguin, Texas currently holds a 14-0 singles record and closed out an undefeated 7-0 season in HCAC action. Berban rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 win against Breneman (3-10) on Wednesday. She picked up a 6-0, 6-2 win against Tran (2-5) on Friday. Berban then fought to a 6-3, 0-6, 6-2 victory against Robinson on Saturday.
As the No. 1 seed, Anderson opens the HCAC Tournament on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Top Seed Tennis Club in Nicholasville, Ky. The Ravens will play the winner of No. 4 Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (7-4) and No. 5 Franklin College (5-7).
