MATCH 1: DEFIANCE 3, ANDERSON 2
Both teams were tied and 13-all in the final set, but Defiance scored the final two points to close out the victory.
"We continue to beat ourselves when we are put in a close match," Coach Tami Miller said. "We had opportunities to win the match, but again our unforced errors continue to haunt us. We had some strong offensive leaders in Shaylen Perry, Sydney McClain and Felicity Bontrager. As a freshman, Shaylen continues to lead our offense."
Tess Perdue (Lexington, Ky./West Jessamine) led the Ravens with 12 kills. Ashlyn Transier (Cicero, Ind./Oak Hill) smashed 10 kills. Felicity Bontrager (Goshen, Ind./Fairfield) recorded eight kills and 18 digs. Sydney McClain (Urbana, Ohio/Emmanuel Christian Academy) also turned in eight kills. Shaylen Perry (Eaton, Ohio/Eaton) notched seven kills and six blocks. Kate Todd (Festus, Mo./Festus) and Kaycie Gates (Newburgh, Ind./Castle) dished out 20 assists and 19 assists, respectively. Brooke Troyer (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Memorial) scattered 27 digs while Erin Roach (Selma, Ind./Wapahani) collected 16 digs. Jimena Montano (Algonquin, Ill./Harvest Christian Academy) also posted five blocks.
MATCH 2: ANDERSON 3, DEFIANCE 0
"We came out fighting in the second match and not only picked up a win, but also got some court time for some of our younger players. It was a great team effort and a much-needed win!"
Gates delivered seven aces for the Ravens, which marks the highest single-match ace total since she provided eight aces against MacMurray College last season. Transier powered to eight blocks on the match. The sophomore middle hitter from Cicero also put together five kills. Perry contributed five kills, McClain added five kills and Todd tallied 16 assists. Roach and Ally Hall (Pendleton, Ind./Pendleton Heights) scattered 10 digs each.
