DePauw, Defiance Grind Out Wins against Ravens

DePauw University and Defiance College each grinded out a win against the Anderson University volleyball team in non-conference matchups on Saturday in Greencastle.

To open the day, DePauw (3-0) rallied to a 20-25, 19-25, 25-16, 25-17, 15-7 victory against Anderson (1-2). Defiance (1-2) then topped Anderson in a 25-22, 23-25, 25-18, 25-21 win.

"[Saturday] was a wake-up call for us," Coach Tami Miller said. "We started the day off with some solid ball control and good offense, but we did not stay disciplined in either match."

DEPAUW 3, ANDERSON 2

Tess Perdue (Lexington, Ky./West Jessamine) led the Ravens with nine kills. Felicity Bontrager (Goshen, Ind./Fairfield) notched eight kills, three blocks and 11 digs. Kaycie Gates (Newburgh, Ind./Castle) racked up five service aces and 20 assists. Brooke Troyer (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Memorial) scattered 16 digs. Kate Todd (Festus, Mo./Festus) put together 14 assists and 12 digs. Sydney McClain (Urbana, Ohio/Emmanuel Christian Academy) and Ashlyn Transier (Cicero, Ind./Oak Hill) recorded six kills each.

The Tigers put together a .205 hitting percentage while the Ravens finished with a .090 attack percentage.

"We let a 2-0 set lead get away from us against DePauw, but I give them credit as they fought hard to finish out the next three sets."

DEFIANCE 3, ANDERSON 1

Perdue paced the Ravens with 12 kills. The junior from Lexington, Ky. also tallied 14 digs. Troyer collected 20 digs on defense. Gates notched 21 assists and three service aces. Jimena Montano (Algonquin, Ill./Harvest Christian Academy) posted 10 kills and three blocks. Shaylen Perry (Eaton, Ohio/Eaton) produced four blocks and Hannah Rady (Cloverdale, Ind./Cloverdale) dished out 10 assists. Bontrager and Transier contributed six kills apiece.

Defiance racked up a .243 attack percentage while Anderson put together a .182 hitting percentage.

"Defiance did a great job of keeping us out of system both with their aggressive serves and their offense."
