Smatlak Garners CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors

Anderson University women's track and field standout Emily Smatlak has garnered College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District honors, which was announced by CoSIDA on Thursday.
Smatlak graduated as part of the 2021 class with a 3.93 cumulative GPA. She earned a double major in National Security Studies and Psychology.
Smatlak took 18th place in the javelin during the 2021 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships with a throw of 36.95 meters (121 feet, 2.75 inches). During the Pacesetter Sports Invitational, Smatlak broke her previous school record in the javelin with a throw of 42.10 meters (138 feet, 1.5 inches), closing the season ranked 14th on the NCAA Division III leaderboard in the javelin. She was also ranked second in the Great Lakes Region for the javelin to earn United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) all-region recognition.
Smatlak fired the javelin 36.30 meters (119 feet, 1.25 inches) during the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Outdoor Championships to secure second and receive second-team all-HCAC honors. She also competed on the team's 4x100-meter relay, which clocked a time of 51.80 seconds for third place and all-HCAC Honorable Mention. Smatlak also contributed to points in the conference meets during the indoor 4x200, indoor 4x400 and outdoor 4x400. She also collected academic all-HCAC honors during the spring and was named the team's HCAC Sportsmanship recipient during the outdoor season.
Smatlak was nominated for NCAA Woman of the Year by the HCAC on Monday.
CoSIDA is set to announce its Division III Academic All-America team for track and field/cross country on Aug. 11.
