Anderson University men's track and field sophomore Michael Sweigart has collected United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) honors, which was announced on Friday.

"Michael has made tremendous strides forward as a man this year," Coach Nic Huffman said. "He has been incredibly disciplined and focused on improving himself academically, as a leader, socially, as an athlete in the weight room and recovering his body. He does it all. He accomplished every goal he set besides qualifying for the national meet. His growth this year is remarkable. He's even more motivated for his junior year and I can't wait to see what he accomplishes next. There are bigger things ahead. Hats off to throws coach Felisha Johnson for her expert coaching and Michael for soaking up as much knowledge as he can."

The USTFCCCA recognized track and field athletes that finished in the top five in their region in an event. Sweigart locked up fourth in the region in the shot put with a season-best distance of 15.87 meters (52 feet, 1 inch). The sophomore from Alexandria also claimed fifth in the region in the discus with a season-best throw of 47.69 meters (156 feet, 5 inches).

Among NCAA D-III leaders, Sweigart currently ranks 30th in the shot put, 36th in the discus and 50th in the hammer throw (53.65 meters – 176 feet, 0 inches).
