Anderson University men's track and field junior Michael Sweigart broke the hammer throw school record during Wednesday's Marian University Last Chance Meet in Indianapolis.
Sweigart captured first place in the hammer with a throw of 57.60 meters (188 feet, 11.75 inches). The Alexandria native is currently tied for 18th on the NCAA D-III leaderboard.
Parker Hammons also fired the javelin 41.10 meters (134 feet, 10 inches).
"The weather was perfect for competition and it was great," Coach Nic Huffman said. "Parker is working out a few kinks in the javelin. Michael had a huge day in the hammer to push in the top 20 nationally. It's extremely difficult to get a school record in track at AU because of the storied history of the program. Michael is a beast and has had his sights set on this goal for the past three years. It's really awesome to see the record fall in person, especially since he took it from a teammate of mine, Dwayne Lockridge. It's time to get some rest and recovery. We're resetting and going for more in a couple of days."
Anderson battles in the two-day Fighting Chance Meet, which begins on Friday at 1 p.m. ET in Joliet, Ill.
