Anderson University men's track and field junior Michael Sweigart earned United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) all-region honors in the hammer, which was announced on Friday.
Sweigart finished the season ranked third in the NCAA D-III Great Lakes Region in the hammer with a school-record mark of 57.60 meters (188 feet, 11.75 inches). The USTFCCCA recognizes track and field athletes with all-region recognition for finishing in the top five in the region in an event.
Last outdoor season, Sweigart received all-region honors in both the shot put and discus. He also collected all-region recognition in the weight throw during this indoor season. Sweigart was named HCAC Field Athlete of the Week once during this indoor season and once during this outdoor season. During the indoor season, Sweigart captured the weight throw conference title during the indoor season and then defended his hammer conference title during the outdoor season.
"I'm proud of Michael and the way he works," Coach Nic Huffman said. "He earned all-region through his dedication, discipline and focus on pushing himself to his highest level. He demands success and it shows in his progress, even earning a school record this season. He's a dominant force as an athlete, a terrific teammate, a leader and a joy to coach. I'm looking forward to what he accomplishes in the future."
