Sweigart Selected as HCAC Throws Athlete of the Week
Anderson University men’s track and field senior Michael Sweigart has been selected as the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Throws Athlete of the Week, which was announced by the conference on Tuesday.
Anderson University men's track and field senior Michael Sweigart has been selected as the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Throws Athlete of the Week, which was announced by the conference on Tuesday.
Sweigart collected his third HCAC Throws Athlete-of-the-Week award this season. Debuting this season, the HCAC split the Field Athlete-of-the-Week award into Throws Athlete of the Week and Jumps Athlete of the Week. Prior to this year, the Alexandria native has been named HCAC Field Athlete of the Week three times in his career during the indoor season and twice in his career during the outdoor season.
During last Saturday's Polar Bear Final Qualifier in Ada, Ohio, Sweigart captured first place in the weight throw with a school-record mark of 19.55 meters (64 feet, 1.75 inches). The Alexandria native broke the previous school record of 19.48 meters set by 2006 graduate Dwayne Lockridge. Sweigart also broke the Polar Bear Final Qualifier meet record. He currently ranks sixth in NCAA D-III in the weight throw.
In the shot put, Sweigart recorded a distance of 14.36 meters (47 feet, 1.5 inches).
Sweigart competes in the weight throw of the NCAA D-III Indoor Championships on Friday, March 14 at 10 a.m. in Rochester, N.Y. at Golisano Training Center.
