Anderson University men's track and field senior Michael Sweigart earned United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) all-Great Lakes Region honors in the weight throw, which was announced on Wednesday.
Sweigart posted a school-record mark of 19.55 meters (64 feet, 1.75 inches) weight throw, which ranks fourth in the Great Lakes Region and sixth in NCAA D-III. The Alexandria native was tabbed the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Throws Athlete of the Meet in the HCAC Indoor Championships. Sweigart defended his conference weight throw title. He has been named HCAC Throws Athlete of the Week three times this season.
Sweigart garnered all-region honors in the weight throw for the second year in a row. During his outdoor career, he has received all-region recognition in the hammer as a junior and in the shot put and discus as a sophomore.
"Michael has put in the work and has done all of the right things to get him to where he is currently," Coach Nic Huffman said. "To earn all-region recognition in a region featuring three throws ranked in the top five, nationally, and seven throwers ranked in the top 25, nationally, is an impressive feat."
Sweigart competes in the weight throw of the NCAA D-III Indoor Championships on Friday, March 14 at 10 a.m. in Rochester, N.Y. at Golisano Training Center.
