Ravens Battle Past Knights

It was a back-and-forth match in the first quarter as both teams traded a pair of goals, ending the first quarter knotted at 2-all. Mallory Housman netted both of the goals for the Ravens (3-5) in the first quarter.
After Marian (3-8) took a 3-2 lead in the second quarter, the Ravens responded with four unanswered goals to close the second quarter. Providing goals for Anderson were Riley Tull, Gretta Mesarosh, Housman, Samantha Huber.
The Knights began to cut at Anderson's lead in the third quarter, but Emma Sego provided a pair of goals in the third quarter to keep the Knights at bay. Huber also found the back of the net in the third quarter, as the Ravens entered the final quarter with a 9-7 lead.
Grace Martin contributed a goal in the fourth quarter to put the Knights within one goal. Anderson notched two goals in the next minute as Tull and Housman both scored goals as the Ravens took an 11-8 lead with 12 minutes, 42 seconds remaining. Marian came within goal, cutting Anderson's lead to 11-10 with 4:18 to go, but Sego added a goal with 3:10 remaining to put Anderson up 12-10. The Knights won the following draw control and had two possessions before time expired, but weren't able to capitalize on either.
"The team played exceptionally well in the first half, led by Mallory Housman and Emma Sego scoring multiple goals, and Riley Tull controlling the midfield," Coach Russell Mackey said. "The second half, we did enough to maintain the lead as our defense stepped up big time. Hannah Planck made some incredible defensive stops that kept them off the scoreboard multiple times."
Housman led the Ravens with four goals. The senior from Evansville added an assist to finish with five points. Sego provided three goals and two assists for five points. The freshman from Indianapolis filled her stat sheet with four caused turnovers and four ground balls. Tull led the match with eight draw controls and also netted two goals and collected five ground balls. Madison Leonard saved 12 of the 22 shots she faced and also picked up a match-high six ground balls. Huber produced two goals and an assist while Mesarosh turned in a goal and an assist.
Anderson takes on Asbury University (1-8) on Friday, April 8 at 7 p.m. at Macholtz Stadium.
