Ravens Roll Past Pilots on Senior Day

The Anderson University women's swimming and diving team rolled past Bethel University (Ind.) on Saturday at Bennett Natatorium on Senior Day.
 
Anderson (4-3) picked up a 147-57 victory against Bethel (2-9). The Ravens fell to Indiana Wesleyan University (3-2), ranked No. 5 in the latest National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) poll, in a 157-95 decision.
 
"Our team did really well," Emma Maubach said. "I think we all did a good job coming up cheering and supporting each other."
 
"I think we competed really well as a team," Heather Krapfl added. "I think we came in strong and ready to fight and win."
 
Halle Strege captured first in the 1-meter diving event to rack up 18 points for the Ravens. The freshman from McCordsville compiled a school-record 11-dive score of 366.91 points.
 
"Halle recorded a new program record in the 1-meter diving by scoring 366.91 points," Head Coach Tanner Barton said. "This is a personal best for Halle by over 2 points. Assistant Diving Coach Andra Pavich and I are excited to see how she fares next weekend at Manchester."
 
Lillia Mitchell took second in the 200-yard individual medley with a personal-record (PR) time of 2 minutes, 24.52 seconds.
 
"Lillia recorded a personal best in the 200 IM," Barton said. "It is rare to record personal-best times in dual meets, but Lillia smashed her tapered and suited time from November's Magnus Cup by over two seconds."
 
The Ravens fielded a 200-medley relay of Aubrey Davis, Mitchell, Tori Haessig and Ashley Daulton, which earned second with a time of 2:00.03. Anderson also put together a 200-medley relay of Krapfl, Emma Maubach, Brooke Denouden and Noelle Parks, which provided a time of 2:11.06.
 
Krapfl turned in a PR time of 3:10.00 in the 200 individual medley. The senior from Orland provided a 100 backstroke time of 1:22.49.
 
"I felt pretty good," Krapfl said. "I think we've been training really hard, so I felt ready for [Saturday]."
 
Emma Maubach clocked times of 27.59 seconds in the 50 freestyle and 1:00.09 in the 100 freestyle.
 
"I think I did pretty well," Emma Maubach stated.
 
"Emma and Heather have been tremendous leaders on the women's side," Barton commented. "They continue to lead and mentor our younger student-athletes.  I was happy to see the rest of the team cheer on Emma and Heather as they competed for the very last time in Bennett Natatorium."
 
The Ravens fielded a 4x400 relay of Claire Leibold, Tess Maubach, Kaitlyn Hopp and Lily Hunter, which raced to second (3:55.14).
 
Aubrey Davis locked up second (1:04.44) in the 100 backstroke. The sophomore from Centerville came in second in the 50 freestyle with a time of 26.64 seconds.
 
Tess Maubach secured second (2:08.44) in the 200 freestyle and fourth (1:05.63) in the 100 butterfly.
 
Hopp put together a third-place finish (11:53.90) in the 1,000 freestyle and a fifth-place finish (5:50.14) in the 500 freestyle.
 
Denouden finished third (5:46.51) in the 500 freestyle.
 
Leibold placed fourth in both the 500 freestyle (5:47.35) and the 1,000 freestyle (11:57.07).
 
In the 100 butterfly, Jessica Pulaski claimed fifth (1:06.30) while Haessig came in sixth (1:06.75).
 
The Ravens honored women's seniors Krapfl and Emma Maubach as well as Andrew Taflinger on the men's side. In the fourth year of the program, Krapfl, Emma Maubach and Taflinger are the first graduating class to spend all four years with the program.
 
"[Saturday] was a special day for our programs as we honored our senior swimmers, Emma Maubach, Heather Krapfl and Andrew Taflinger," Barton said. "These three were members of the inaugural Anderson University swimming programs and I applaud them for their commitment to this university and to the team."
 
"Senior Day was everything that I wished and hoped it would be," Emma Maubach said.
 
"It's just really exciting," Krapfl said. "I think the program has grown a lot and I'm excited to see where it continues to be. I'm happy that I was able to help build it up and I can't wait to see where it goes in the future."
 
The Ravens battle in a quadrangular with Manchester University (1-4, 0-2), Oliver College (3-6) and NCAA Division II's Urbana University (2-5) next Saturday at 1 p.m. in North Manchester.
