Trine Tops Anderson in Season Opener

Trine University topped the Anderson University men's lacrosse team with a 25-3 victory on Wednesday in Angola.
"There were a lot of positives despite the outcome," Coach Jacob Ashton said. "I felt our effort over four quarters was very positive."
Trine (1-0) cleared 15-of-18 (83.3 percent) attempts while Anderson finished 11-of-27 (40.7 percent) clears. Anderson turned the ball over 30 times while Trine committed 23 turnovers.
"We constantly talk about mastering the fundamentals; our fundamentals were not sound as a team; in turn, mistakes were made and Trine capitalized."
Cole Whatley, Johnathan Havener and Josh Ekberg each contributed goals for Anderson.
"Johnathan and Cole both scored their first career goals and Josh scored on a transition breakaway. All three showed a lot of confidence and that will continue to grow as the season progresses."
Alex Warren won eight face offs and picked up five ground balls. Michael Ertel collected three ground balls. Eric Fisher saved 14 of the 39 shots he faced.
Anderson challenges Heidelberg University (0-0) on Saturday at 2 p.m.
