Hanover College fended off the Anderson University men's lacrosse team with an 8-5 win during Sunday's non-conference matchup in Hanover.
The Panthers (3-3) jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first quarter, but the Ravens (1-5) did not let Hanover separate.
"I'm very proud of our guys and how we played," Coach Jacob Ashton said. "We played a very-disciplined Hanover squad and didn't let a slow start derail us."
Anderson cut the deficit to 6-5 in the fourth quarter, but Hanover netted the final two goals of the game.
"We missed some opportunities early on offense, which we can't do against a team like Hanover."
Eric Fisher (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport) saved 12 of the 20 shots he faced. The junior from Indianapolis also led the Ravens with eight ground balls.
Mason Bratcher (Louisville, Ky./Louisville Male) caused three turnovers while Bryce Johnson (Greenfield, Ind./Cathedral) recorded six ground balls. Tristan Wilbrandt (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral) and Josh Rhodes (Vienna, Va./James Madison) each created two turnovers.
"Eric Fisher played a fantastic game in goal and our defense continues to grow and improve every game."
Cole Whatley (Green Bay, Wis./Notre Dame Academy) notched two goals while Johnathan Havener (Kettering, Ohio/Kettering Fairmount), Rhodes and Wilbrandt each produced goals. Wilbrandt and Whatley each won three faceoffs.
Anderson kicks off the Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference (HCLC) season on Saturday by hosting Mount St. Joseph University (2-4) for Senior Night at 6 p.m. at Macholtz Stadium.
