Wabash College (1-0) fended off the Anderson University men's lacrosse team (0-1) with a 10-8 victory during the season opener on Wednesday at Macholtz Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Johnathan Havener netted two goals in a defensive first quarter. The Ravens led 2-1 after the first quarter.
- Caleb Spencer and Havener scored consecutive goals to give Anderson a 4-1 lead with 12 minutes, 33 seconds remaining in the half.
- Wabash cut away at the lead, but the Ravens led 5-4 at halftime. Michael Ertel gave Anderson its fifth goal with 9:51 left in the second quarter.
- The Little Giants gained their first lead when Tanner Simmons scored with 5:32 left in the third quarter.
- Clayton Emery evened the score at 6-all with 2:45 left in the third quarter.
- The Little Giants started to pull away as they scored four consecutive goals, including two from Anthony Nguyen. Wabash held a 10-6 advantage with 5:05 to go.
- Josh Rhodes and Ertel each scored goals to cut the deficit in half, but the Ravens ran out of time.
