The Anderson University men's lacrosse team raced past Earlham College with a 13-7 victory during Wednesday's Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference (HCLC) matchup in Richmond.
Earlham (1-10, 0-2) jumped out to a 4-1 lead with 4 minutes, 13 seconds left in the first quarter. Anderson then responded by scoring the next 10 goals. Anderson cleared 23-of-25 (92 percent) attempts while Earlham finished 22-of-27 (81.5 percent) clears.
Cole Whatley (Green Bay, Wis./Notre Dame Academy) led the Ravens with five goals. Josh Rhodes (Vienna, Va./James Madison) contributed four goals and an assist. Logan Lawrence (Westfield, Ind./Westfield) notched two goals and two assists. Johnathan Havener (Kettering, Ohio/Kettering Fairmount) provided a goal and two assists. Jacob Spratley (Columbus, Ind./Columbus East) turned in a goal and an assist while Tristan Wilbrandt (Columbus, Ind./Columbus East) and Michael Ertel (Morrow, Ohio/Little Miami) each dished out assists.
Whatley won 8-of-9 (88.9 percent) faceoffs and picked up six ground balls. Wilbrandt won 8-of-15 (53.3 percent) faceoffs. Mason Bratcher (Louisville, Ky./Louisville Male) posted four caused turnovers and six ground balls. Bryce Johnson (Greenfield, Ind./Cathedral) collected seven ground balls and Spratley tallied six ground balls. Eric Fisher (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport) saved five of the 12 shots he faced.
Anderson clashes with Hanover College (5-3, 1-0) in a key matchup for HCLC position on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Macholtz Stadium.
