Transylvania Tops Anderson in HCAC Matchup
Transylvania University topped the Anderson University men's swimming and diving team with a 147-81 victory during Saturday's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) matchup in Lexington, Ky.
Â
The Pioneers moved to 3-2 with a 1-0 HCAC record while Anderson holds a 1-3 record with an 0-2 conference record.
Â
"I am very proud of how the AU student-athletes competing in [Saturday's] meet persevered through the adversity of being outnumbered by Transylvania swimmers in numerous events," Coach Tanner Barton said. "They represented Anderson University, our Athletic Department and our swimming and diving program in a commendable way."
Â
Noah Scheffer (Lambertville, Mich./Bedford) improved his 100-yard butterfly school record by taking first place with a time of 53.94 seconds. The freshman from Lambertville, Mich. Also claimed first in the 200 butterfly with a personal-best time of 2 minutes, 8.38 seconds.
Â
"Noah Scheffer (Lambertville, Mich./Bedford) had an incredible meet! He implemented changes that we discussed after [Friday's] racing, specifically in regards to his butterfly events. By making these changes and by racing with great intensity, Noah posted a personal best time in the 200 Fly and he lowered his season best (and AU program record!) in the 100 Fly. It will be exciting to see how Noah and the other men race at the Magnus Cup Invitational after decreasing practice yardage and intensity before this mid-season championship meet."
Â
Anderson fielded a 200-freestyle relay of Josh Ekberg (Mahomet, Ill/Mahomet Seymour), Andrew Taflinger (Terre Haute, Ind./Terre Haute North), Evan Kropf (Fort Wayne, Ind./Fort Wayne Concordia) and Scheffer, which earned first (1:31.81).
Â
Kris Keller (Fishers, Ind./Northridge) raced to first (11:26.73) in the 1,000 freestyle. Kropf captured first in the 50 freestyle (22.96).
Â
Taflinger, Ekberg, Scheffer and Keller represented Anderson in the 200-medley relay and clocked a time of 1:45.12.
Â
Anderson returns to action in the Magnus Cup, hosted by NCAA Division I's Cleveland State University, on Nov. 22-24 in Cleveland.
