CARMEL, Ind. – Due to ongoing complications of the COVID pandemic, the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) announced on Tuesday that the 2022 men's and women's basketball championships will be expanded to include eight teams.
With the pandemic's ongoing challenges preventing HCAC teams from rescheduling games and the potential for a disparity in the number of regular-season contests played, the HCAC Administration and Council of President's agreed to modify the basketball championships for the 2022 season to include eight teams in the postseason tournament.
The teams will be seeded using a strength of schedule formula for all regular season conference contests that averages a team's winning percentage, their opponents winning percentage and their opponents opponents winning percentage, all factored in at a weight of 1/3.
The basketball regular season is scheduled to conclude on Feb. 18. The first round of the conference tournament will be played on Feb. 20, with all eight advancing teams in action. The final two rounds of the championship will be contested at the highest remaining seed on Friday, Feb. 25 and Saturday, Feb. 26.
