Hope Pulls Away from Anderson in Second Half
Hope College pulled away from the Anderson University men's basketball team in the second half with an 82-64 win on Saturday in Holland, Mich.
Â
The Dutch (3-0) held a 40-37 lead at halftime. Hope then outscored Anderson (2-2) by a 42-27 margin in the second half.
Â
Anderson converted 13-of-30 (43.3 percent) shots from the field in the first half, but then dropped to a 29.4-percent (10-of-34) shooting clip in the second half.
Â
"It was a tale of two halves for us," Coach Owen Handy said. "In the first half we did a great job with aggressive patience and letting the right shots come to us. In the second half, that patience abandoned us and we took a lot of bad shots. We have got to learn as a team that in the biggest moments we need to become even more disciplined at both ends of the floor. In the second half, we had too many guys trying to 'make a play' at both ends and not enough consistency of execution."
Â
Maurice Knight (Frankton, Ind./Frankton) led the Ravens with 17 points. Austin Lyons (Anderson, Ind./Lapel) provided 13 points and Ronny Williams (Anderson, Ind./Liberty Christian) contributed 12 points. Williams and Lyons shared the team lead with seven rebounds apiece.
Â
Jake Gudorf (Brookville, Ohio/Brookville) tallied nine points, Malik Laffoon (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington North) notched eight points and Dalton DuBois (Plainfield, Ind./Cascade) rounded out Anderson's scoring with five points.
Â
"It is frustrating at times because growth and learning are not linear processes. The good news for us is our trend line is clearly up."
Â
Anderson faces off with Illinois Wesleyan University (4-1) next Wednesday at 7 p.m. in O.C. Lewis Gymnasium.
