Late Push Lifts Ravens Over Pioneers

The Anderson University men's basketball team (9-3, 4-1) secured a 76-75 victory over Transylvania University (6-6, 4-1) in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) action on Saturday in Lexington, Ky.

 HOW IT HAPPENED

• The first half went back and forth, ending with the score knotted at 39.
• Transylvania went on an 8-1 run and held the lead till there were two minutes left in regulation.
• The late push began with two minutes remaining when Axel Laby found Tate Ivanyo for his sixth three of the game, making the score 71-73.
• Transylvania's Drew Marshall responded with a two to get their lead back to four.
• Rob Davidson drew a foul driving the basket and made both free throws to bring it 73-75
• After a Pioneer miss, Kenney Troutman drew a foul and made the second free throw, bringing the Ravens to within one.
• Transylvania inbounded the ball, and Kenney Troutman stole it and made an easy lay-up to give the Ravens the lead with 21 seconds left.
• The Pioneers got off a corner 3-point attempt with three seconds left, which fell short.

• Anderson converted 28-of-63 (44.4 percent) shots from the floor, while Transylvania connected on 28-of-65 (43.1 percent) attempts.
• The Ravens hit 10-of-29 (34.5 percent) shots from 3-point range, while the Pioneers made 9-of-29 (31.0 percent) attempts from beyond the arc.
• Anderson drained 10-of-14 (71.4 percent) shots at the free-throw line, compared to Transylvania's 10-of-16 (62.5 percent) shots.

COACH CARTER COLLINS'S COMMENTS

I sure didn't feel like we played our best basketball [on Saturday] - we continue to get off to slow starts, and our offense was out of sorts all night. But I have to give it up to the guys and their never-say-die attitude - we were able to make one final push in the last three minutes, and it just barely got us over the hump. You need some of those in a 25-game regular season, and we got one tonight.
