Ravens Drop 65 in Second Half, Power Past Bulldogs
The Anderson University men's basketball team dropped 65 points in the second half and powered past Adrian College with a 98-75 victory on Friday at O.C. Lewis Gymnasium.
Â
The Ravens (1-0) held onto a 33-31 lead at halftime. Anderson then outscored the Bulldogs (0-2) by a 65-44 margin in the second half.
Â
"We've been asking our team to be patient and work for good shots at the offensive end, but in that first half, we had a passive patience and not an active patience," Coach Owen Handy said. "In the second half we took the floor with more of a commitment to being active without the ball and attacking with the ball."
Â
Anderson held an 11-4 margin in steals. The Bulldogs turned the ball over 18 times while the Ravens committed 13 turnovers. Defensive pressure allowed Anderson close out with a 15-2 advantage in fast-break points and an 11-3 advantage in points off turnovers.
Â
"I am really pleased with the defensive effort we gave. We defended with good intensity for 40 minutes. We showed flashes of potential at that end of the floor to be a team that can win games because we guard people. We still have work to do to make sure we play really connected and are consistent with our primary and secondary rotations."
Â
Maurice Knight (Frankton, Ind./Frankton) paced the Ravens with 18 points and seven rebounds.
Â
Ronny Williams (Anderson, Ind./Liberty Christian) notched 16 points and five steals, which he compiled entirely in the second half.
Â
"Obviously Ronny gave us a great spark off the bench in the second half. He is so good at reading defenders in ball-screen actions, and can be a real pest on defense."
Â
Tate Copper and Dalton DuBois (Plainfield, Ind./Cascade) tallied 15 points apiece. Malik Laffoon (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington North) contributed 12 points and Jake Gudorf (Brookville, Ohio/Brookville) produced 11 points. Anderson totaled six double-digit scorers on the game.
Â
"We also had great balance in field-goal attempts and got really good contributions from a number of guys."
Â
J.D. Bembry (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) turned in six points. Michael Rogers (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) scored four points while Phil Bessick (Maple Heights, Ohio/Villa Angela-St. Joseph) rounded out Anderson's scoring with one point.
Â
Anderson battles Kalamazoo College (0-2) on Saturday at 3 p.m. in O.C. Lewis Gymnasium.
