Knight Drops 29 Points against Pioneers

Anderson University men's basketball senior Maurice Knight (Frankton, Ind. / Frankton) dropped 29 points and collected nine rebounds during Saturday's Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) matchup against Transylvania University in O.C. Lewis Gymnasium.

Transylvania (8-5, 3-3) topped Anderson (10-5, 5-3) with an 83-71 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Both teams fired off 3-pointers to get the contest started.
• The first half saw a back-and-forth battle between the Ravens and Pioneers, with multiple ties and lead changes happening during the 20 minutes of action.
• Both teams fought to take the lead before heading into the locker room for halftime.
• In the final two minutes, each time the Ravens made a basket to go ahead, the Pioneers would immediately answer to tie the game back up.
• With one-minute remaining, Maurice Knight made a jump shot to put the Ravens up 43-42. As it looked like the Ravens would head into halftime with the lead, the Pioneers would make a free throw to tie the game 43-43 with four seconds remaining. Then, with two seconds on the clock, Transylvania's Hunter Penn rebounded his missed free throw and made a layup to send the teams into the locker room with the Pioneers leading 45-43.
• To start the half Anderson went on a 9-0 run beginning at 19:36 and ending with 16:00 remaining in the half to take a 52-45 lead.
• Anderson would hold onto the lead for most of the half until the Pioneers would go on a run of her own.
• Starting at 8:55, the Pioneers would go on a 17-0 run, ending their run with 4 minutes remaining in the game. During their run, the Pioneers tied the Ravens and ultimately took a 75-67 lead.
• Ultimately Anderson was unable to come back and fell to Transylvania by a final score of 83-71.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• From the field, Anderson and Transylvania remained pretty even. The Ravens ended the game 27-of-52 (51.9 percent) and the Pioneers finished 26-of-50 (52 percent)
• The contest saw a total of 59 free throws taken by the two teams. Anderson made 12 of their 21 (57.1 percent) attempts whereas Transylvania finished 28-of-38 (73.7 percent)
• Maurice Knight concluded the game with 29 points, nine rebounds, two assists, one steal, and one block. Knight made 10-14 of his free throw attempts.
• Tate Ivanyo finished with 13 points and six rebounds for the Ravens.
• Fred Shropshire also scored nine points for the Ravens.

COACH OWEN HANDY'S COMMENTS

There is not a lot to say about this game. The absolute truth is that it is really hard to win a basketball game when the other team is awarded 28 second-half free throws and we shoot only two until the last minute of the half.

On Wednesday, the Ravens will be on the road in Terre Haute as they take on the Rose-Hulman Fightin' Engineers (9-4, 5-2) in HCAC action. Tipoff is set for 7:30PM.
